You’re sharing your Mavely links, but something isn’t clicking, literally or figuratively. Whether you’re not getting any clicks at all or you’re getting clicks but no sales, both situations are more common than you might think, and both are fixable.
In this Mavely University training, Creator Education Manager Shauna Hollinger walks through the most common reasons affiliate links don’t convert and what you can do about it today. Watch the video below for the full walkthrough, or read on for a step-by-step breakdown.
Scenario 1: You’re sharing links but not getting clicks
If your links aren’t getting any clicks, one of these three things is likely the culprit.
Your audience can’t find your links. Every time you share a recommendation, you need to tell people exactly where to go to shop. That means including a clear call to action every single time you post, so the path to purchase is obvious and easy to follow.
You’re not sharing your links often enough. Only a small percentage of your followers will see any given post, which means the majority of your audience probably missed it. Frequency is a key part of any affiliate strategy, so keep showing up consistently with your recommendations rather than sharing once and moving on.
Your audience needs more time to adjust. If you’re newer to sharing shoppable content, your current followers may just need time to get used to it. As you keep showing up with affiliate recommendations, you’ll naturally start attracting people who follow you specifically to shop. That shift takes time, and it’s a completely normal part of the process.
Scenario 2: You’re getting clicks but no sales
Getting clicks is actually a good sign. It means your audience is paying attention and your content is sparking interest. There’s just a small gap between that interest and a completed purchase, and it usually comes down to one of these three things.
The price point needs time to convert. Higher-priced items take longer to sell because people often need more time before committing to a bigger purchase. Try mixing in some lower-priced recommendations alongside your higher-ticket ones. Smaller purchases convert faster, and over time you’ll learn which price points resonate best with your specific audience.
Your audience still has unanswered questions. If someone clicks your link but still isn’t sure about sizing, quality, or how a product actually works, they’re less likely to buy. The more detail you can provide upfront about the products you recommend, the better your chances of closing that gap between interest and purchase.
There are too many steps between the click and checkout. If your link goes to a brand’s homepage instead of the specific product page, your audience has to hunt for what you recommended, and most people won’t bother. Make sure your links go directly to the product so there are as few steps as possible between the click and the purchase.
Your next steps
- Head to your Mavely analytics and look at your click data to figure out which scenario applies to you right now
- Pick one thing from this post that resonates and apply it to your next recommendation
- Keep showing up: it takes time to figure out what works, especially if you’re just getting started
Consistency and frequency are what move the needle over time, so don’t get discouraged if results feel slow at first. Every adjustment you make gets you closer to a strategy that converts.
